| has faced many challenges in his efforts to help fellow songwriters through his work at NAS (National Academy of Songwriters). A while back, however, Steve faced his greatest challenge: HIV. Friends felt the pain of knowing Steve might become another statistic. Steve came close on several occasions but somehow managed to recover. During the long, drawn-out battle, Steve was picked from a lottery to participate in a new medication regimen. The recovery was nothing less than incredible! The combination of Steve's will to live and the treatment gave Steve renewed life which he channeled into songwriting. The first song to evolve was "Connected," a bitingly frank tale of Steve's trip to the emergency room. Steve played it on our piano as Randy and Cyndie listened in awe. Magic happened that day and the resulting tape became the beginning of an album entitled, "Living in the Bonus Round." The album became the musical and book, "The Last Session," with script by accomplished writer, Jim Brochu. The play opened here in Los Angeles and eventually played at the Zephyr Theatre on Melrose. This produced interest and got the production moved to New York's off-Broadway district where it has been extended twice! "Living In The Bonus Round" is available from Evening*Star as well as the new Broadway Cast Show Album of "The Last Session!" |
